Coy Elementary School

The passage of a bond issue allowed Oregon Schools to build this new 68,000 sq. ft., 600-student elementary school. The two-story "prairie style" building features pre-cast details, dark brick and long, low overhangs and windows. Unique canopies, designed with safety in mind, cover a portion of the two controlled play areas.
Students enter the building into a warm, inviting lobby, with an administration center controlling access. Eight classrooms line the outer "ring" of the first level, surrounding the multipurpose / dining room and gymnasium. This central core area can be sectioned off for evening events, such as sports, musicals and concerts, and visitors are channeled directly into the space while the balance of the building remains secure.
On the second floor, the art room occupies the center area, featuring skylights that allow a profusion of natural light into the space. A media center and eleven additional classrooms are also on this level.
